It centers on a massive financial conspiracy orchestrated by powerful businessman Neeraj (Jim Sarbh) and a seasoned, disillusioned former CBI officer, Deepak (Nagarjuna Akkineni). Their plan involves using four unsuspecting street beggars from different parts of India as fronts for massive, illicit financial transactions.

Nagarjuna Akkineni is a surprise as Deepak, the grey-shaded, stoic fixer. However, he swaps his usual tender pace for a more tense, quick-footed screenplay. The first half is a slow-burn, patiently setting the stage and building the distinct worlds of the main characters. While this deliberate pace ensures narrative depth, it does contribute to the film’s significant runtime of over three hours, which at times feels excessive and could have benefitted from tighter editing, particularly in the middle portions.
The technical brilliance elevates the viewing experience. Niketh Bommireddy's cinematography is evocative, beautifully capturing the contrast between the grime of the streets and the sterile coldness of the corporate world. Devi Sri Prasad's background score is a major asset, lifting key emotional and thrilling sequences.
Verdict
Kuberaa is a commendable attempt by Sekhar Kammula to tackle an ambitious, large-scale socio-political thriller without losing his signature emotional depth. It's a film that asks uncomfortable, relevant questions about who truly controls the 'wealth' in society.
While the film suffers from an overlong runtime and a climax that feels slightly rushed given the expansive build-up, its strengths far outweigh the flaws. It’s a thought-provoking, gripping social drama anchored by a towering performance from Dhanush.
